    Fear News
Dusting off lj to plug something (like I do)

Matt and I have a new web show, Matt got us this gig because he had an amazing idea that struck him in the middle of a pitch for something else, and now we have a show that we're damned proud of. It's for the Comcast channel "FearNet", it's called "Fear News" and it gives the latest news in horror films from INSIDE a horror movie.

    Ep 1

    Ep 2

We sold them a season of 6 episodes, so we have 4 to go before the end of the year, each featuring a different horror genre. I honestly could gush about this for hours, it's exhausting and I've almost lost my day job a few times because of it, but I love doing this show so much it hurts. And the people I love working with the most are by my side, so it's basically my "LA dream" on a tiny scale.

Any suggestions for what genre we should hit next?

    Charming the knickers off you..
Many of you know comic writer/novelist Warren Ellis is one of my gods, and while he has an internet presence that rivals that of...well, porn as a concept, it's rare to find his personal replies to the common folk.  I just stumbled onto this charming back and forth from a couple years ago in which he uses that Ellis charm to woo a saucy redhead.

    Her flickr pic is this:

    To which Warren replies:

Do you see what just happened there?  Do you see why this man is my idol?  He's a weird looking old British drunk and he just informed her that an age-old deity will rape her eye sockets.. and the girl totally got off on it!

    Bless you, Ellis.

    Truly epic
When three men show up to the same film shoot, and all three are wearing wolf or wolf-parody related shirts on accident, those men form a bond and do what must be done:

I'm sporting the O.G. wolf shirt given to me years ago by [info]lordmasamune , Greg has the Internet Famous 3 Wolf shirt, and [info]evilzug has the Keyboard Cat parody of said 3 Wolf Shirt.  Props to [info]oizys  for coming up with the idea of the picture, and Dustin for his SUPERB moon.  All we need now is a little Photoshop, and a lot of luck.

I get one personal and genuine lj entry a year.
There are moments in my life when I'm genuinely happy.  I'll fully admit it's usually because of something base and simplistic, or sometimes just because standard complications have temporarily melted away.  I'm not that deep of a person (what with the being male and all).  It's nice to set aside the expected sardonic armor and general loud crankiness I've sort of become known for and let my face try more goofy smiles.  Dance at a stoplight, tell bad jokes that aren't double entendres, tell a friend they make me happy.

These are always the times in which those closest to me pull me aside to tell me they can't stand to see me in such a pitiful state for another second.  That my inner turmoil is clearly eating away at me and that they are deeply offended I haven't confided to them what is obviously destroying me internally.
That they know better, and only now have my lies begun to finally slip to expose my true, deep hurting.

And that, children, is why I drink.  Because that's how you fuckers like me.

I know it's an old joke by now, but somehow I thought I'd be immune to this:

    Hi, Dad.  Welcome to Facebook.

    Er....
It always feels awkward to me when one super-nerd fandom references another.  From last week's comic book "Justice Society America"

Yes, Star Girl, just like "Death Note".  But not like "Soul Eater", they're nice Shinigami.
    *head explodes*

Of course, the most awkard example ever in the entire universe was a couple years ago on Batman

I'll just set this right here...
    Snagged from [info]ayashii

If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

    oh HELL yes, that applies!

    **GROUP HUG**

And so this isn't just a namby pamby feel-good post (I have a rep to keep up as a cranky old man) here's a post from amazing writer William Gibson:

    FRANZ KAFKA, MEN'S OUTERWEAR DESIGNER
He was slim but firmly built, his clothes were black and close-fitting, with many folds and pockets, buckles and buttons and a belt, all of which gave the impression of being very practical but without making it very clear what they were actually for.

"Who are you?" asked K., sitting half upright in his bed.

See, to me this says Kafka was the founder of the Square/Enix art department

    Just cuz
No real reason for this post, just want to say I wuv wobots

Heeheehee!  I know they'll be characterless and lame in the next movie, but I don't care.  I love 'em.  At least they kinda' try to make Starscream interesting in the film.  Anyway, peace out!

    Wednesday movie night
Again, "Ink" is at the Egyptian at 7:30 on Wednesday the 10th.  (I'm actually a little worried about it now because I booked a possible 9 day gig doing extra work on Iron Man II.  It should tell you how much I liked "Ink" that I'm contemplating dropping out of Iron Man to make sure I see it)

Also, you can pre-purchase tickets, and I'll admit one dollar is not a major "online fee" so I may go ahead and snag a few tickets after all.

Group's gettin' pretty sizable!  I wound up talking with Director of the film through Twitter and he's the nicest damned person in the world  He's ecstatic to be showing his film in LA.  This should be a blast!

    Ink
Next Wednesday the 10th a film is playing for one night only at the Egyptian Theater.  The film is called "Ink".
It's an indie film, and I'm not an indie film guy.  Like, at all.  But THIS one is freaking amazing!  It's independent only because of its budget, but this is a fantasy world/action-adventure/lovable big damned heroes/thriller done right.  As for the trailer below, I recommend you double click it to actually go to the YouTube page so you can see it in HD and much bigger.

    or click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGeErufQdY&fmt=22

The show is $10.  I don't really have $10, but I'm going to find it so I can see this film again.  I stumbled onto the trailer a year or so ago and thought it looked pretty damned cool.  Last month when visiting my Dad in Colorado Springs I found out the film was playing Denver, and that it had been entirely FILMED in Denver.  Now, I have Colorado pride and all, but I figured that didn't necessarily bode well for the acting in the film.  Well, I was wrong.  The characters are engaging, and the actors really did pull it offThe story and music are just fantastic as well, and evidently a husband and wife team did absolutely everything on the film, and mortgaged their home to do it.  And every theater it's played at so far has had to set up additional screenings, because people keep telling their friends and it keeps selling out.  A two week screening ran NINE weeks in Denver!

They just got an agent to rep it, so it may be a while before it hits DVD, thusly I recommend you come see it with a group of us next week.  If you get scared in parts, I will hold your hand.  All of you.  Simultaneously.

Ticket info is here (but I'm buying mine at the door to avoid the retarded service fees)

    Okaaaaaaaaaay
I know at least 8 or so people that read my lj that will find this amusing.  New comic book coming out:

The comic is called "Models, Inc." (That was a tv show, wasn't it?) and will star the models of the Marvel Universe (Millie the Model, Hellcat, and Mary Jane)

I still do all of these
I sent this out to a bunch of friends a couple months ago but it should spread even further.  Sadly, this video opened my eyes, but I changed very little because of it, but its still funny as hell (and makes you feel guilty while laughing for 3 minutes)

    What's wrong with this picture?

Honestly, I subscribe to a few Disney newsletters on purpose, but how did my Hotmail spam filter let THAT subject header through?

    So much fail
I'm opinionated.  There are things I really enjoy.  And things I really don't like.  Then there are things I think were created just to insult the intelligence of humanity as a whole.

And it frightens me when those few things start TEAMING UP TOGETHER

Smash some reality tv stars and a few Wayans Brothers movies into this episode and this could be what finally destroys America's collective brain functions entirely.

(I think this is the price I have to pay for Daft Punk doing the TRON soundtrack.  For every good, there is true evil)

    Transform and Roll Out
Okay, so the new "Transformers Animated" series has been out for 3 seasons.  I was a hater, like the rest.  It looks different, their chins are too big, it's for little kids.

Well, the show has so much fan-service for old people like me and young whippersnappers like you that its sometimes almost distracting.  But I don't need to waste time trying to talk you into watching it.  If this clip from this week's episode doesn't make you say "wait....WHAT?!  Okay, I'll give it an episode or two" then you're reading the wrong lj, folks.

Yes, Optimus Prime just had a GUITAR VS KEYTAR BATTLE with Soundwave, using Laserbeak and Ratbat.  Might I also add, this was after Optimus was helped by a cute teenaged robot girl with pigtails, and Weird Al Yankovic as Wreck-Gar.  What the hell else do you need here, people?!

    Truly anyone can do it

Proof you don't have to be a gay fish to be an awesome singer.  Observe:

(to explain, a baby's crying is put through an auto tuner, just like every song on top 40 radio currently.  Which I shamelessly listen to)
